SEBASTIAN

Sebastian’s unique use of colour and shape lead him to create clean and sophisticated screen prints that emphasise the interactions between different colours and overlapping forms. With simple and natural shapes, he builds straightforward and lighthearted compositions that evoke feelings of joy and calm.

Sebastian is driven by his strong creative spark and is inspired by nature, music, culture, and art of the past.

Q&A WITH THE ARTIST

If you had the chance to live during a different artistic movement other than now, which one would you choose?

I think I would choose the 1940’s New York Abstract expressionist movement.

If you could interview a creative person (past or present), who would that person be?

Austrian painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser

What inspires you?

Volcanoes, Mayan art and early 80’s video games.

If you could choose a theme song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

“Spider and I”  by Brian Eno.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Please explain your choice.

I would like to live in the south of Chile, because of the dramatic landscapes, hot springs and abundance of Volcanos

Why are you an artist?

Because of my desire to be creative. I think everybody wants to be creative in their lives. I think i was put in the “Artist” category, because I have been creative making prints, sculptures and paintings, but I think the term should include people in other fields as well.

If you could change one aspect of our society through your work, what would it be?

To improve the desire in people to keep our natural world alive.

What do you wish to accomplish with your art?

To generate A feeling of peace and curiosity in the spectator.

If you only had 24 hours to live, how would you spend your day?

Surfing in the morning and then Walking on the beach with my wife.

What do you focus on when you create?

Shapes and color.

When was the first time that you remember realizing that you are a creative person?

When I was around 16 years old and would draw during boring classes in school

Do you do anything special to get your "creative juices" flowing?

Listen to music. Go surf.

If you had the opportunity, what creative person (living or dead) would you like to work with? Why?

I would love to be a ceramic apprentice of Yukiya Izumita. I got to see him work in a live workshop, and it was very inspired to see his quiet and focused artist demeanor.
