Found Photography

The Found Photography series features coastal scenes in New England from the late 19th century, giving a glimpse of seaside life from over a century ago. These photographs were originally glass negatives bought at auction in Europe and, with the help of an expert at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, were digitized to become digital images to print. For an added vintage effect, the photographs are printed on a handmade paper from Bhutan. The natural paper is slightly textured with a deckled edge, giving the photographs both warmth and depth. The location and date of each photograph is handwritten below the image, emphasising the age of the image. Each photograph tells a different story and elicits a different feeling. The women playfully swimming in the water in Swedish Bathers show joy and leisure, while the older man staring out into the ocean in Cape Ann evokes feelings of longing and nostalgia. Our charcoal shadowbox frames add to the antique look of the artwork with their hand-finished stain. With five photographs to choose from, mix and match the series together for a timeless and curated gallery wall in your home.
