Designer Spotlight: Laura Brophy Interiors
Laura Brophy is the principal designer and creative director at Laura Brophy Interiors, an interior design firm headquartered in Newport Beach. Laura and her team’s specialty is providing design services for bespoke residential and hospitality spaces. Innovative, creative, and authentic, Laura’s style is unrestrained and can’t be described by traditional labels. With a philosophical approach to design, Laura creates visually captivating spaces through seamlessly mixing materials, textures, and finishes while integrating a combination of new and old elements. A close friend of Visual Contrast, Laura has been working with us for the last five years and we are huge fans of her modern organic design. We sat down with Laura to ask her more about her design process and recent projects.
Laura believes that “color evokes feeling,” so she looks to color first and foremost when purchasing artwork for her projects. Reviewing the color story of a space, she decides on what feeling she wants to achieve in each room and what role the art will play. Laura emphasized the personal nature of art and how she tailors the artwork in her projects to each client, stating “I look at how our client wants to live, work, and play in each of their spaces and that provides a starting point for the decision process we undertake when selecting the pieces we specify for each particular room.” Describing art as “loud or quiet” or “restful or playful”, Laura uses the psychology of color to guide the development of color palettes for her projects, while creating multi-sensory experiences in the spaces she designs. For example, Laura noted loving our Impressions series for bedrooms, explaining she loves its “serene, quiet, and earthy'' feel.
From the selection of architectural materials to the smallest details such as place settings and dishware, Laura creates expertly designed environments for her clients, where every detail is carefully curated for each client’s lifestyle. Her expert curating is evident in all of her projects with the assortment of old and new decor, the range of textures and finishes, and the variety of materials used. We absolutely love working with Laura as she pursues her mission to inspire everyone who visits the spaces she designs to live their most purposeful and fulfilling lives.
