Our Tips for Styling Art in a Bedroom

When styling a bedroom, many don’t know where to start, especially with art placement. Bedrooms are a refuge, the most personal room in the home, and the place you go to relax. The artwork you hang in your bedroom should represent the feeling you want the room to evoke. However, figuring out how to incorporate art into your bedroom is not easy, considering the wide range of bedroom sizes and the importance of the subject matter of the artwork. We’ve compiled a gallery of images showing how our designer customers have hung our artwork in bedrooms for some tips and examples.

Hanging artwork above the bed is the perfect place to create a focal point in the room. The bed is the largest piece of furniture in the room, so hanging artwork above the bed balances the visual weight. We love how Brooke Wagner Design hangs two artworks above the bed that are similar, but not identical, to make it interesting. Here, two of our Found Photography prints on handmade paper were hung above a bed in the guest bedroom, giving this room a vintage, coastal touch. With images of Southern California printed on our handmade paper from Bhutan, this pair of black and white photographs tie the room together with their neutral tones and black accents.

In this room, Brooke Wagner Design hung two of our Burlap Circles, in taupe and jute, above the bed. Drawing in the brown and gold tones from the room, these silkscreens on burlap stand out with their unique materials, adding layered texture to the space. Without being the center of attention, these artworks draw your eye in with their gold ink and direct your attention to the back wall of the room, complementing the colors and layout of the space.

Instead of hanging two matching pieces above a bed, Kari Interiors hung a singular round Impressions above the bed in one of her projects. The texture and color of the Impressions draw your eye in and the unique round shape gives the room an artistic touch, mimicking a moon above the bed. The intriguing artwork becomes a focal point in the room and fills in the empty space above the bed.

Another place to hang artwork in a bedroom is on the walls next to the bed. In a bedroom, it’s best to fill the empty space on the walls and the best way to do so is with artwork. Brooke Wagner Design hung a Metallic Circle Silkscreen on the wall next to the bed in between two windows. Integrating colors from the room design into the art piece, this silkscreen on handmade paper blends together the pink hues and light wood tones used in the room, making it the perfect addition to this bedroom. The silkscreen’s placement creates a beautiful moment in the corner of the room, without distracting from the patterned bed.

The last artwork location we want to highlight is above the nightstands. Hanging a pair of smaller artworks on either side of the bed or above the nightstands frames the bed, creating a vignette on the wall. Ria Bravo Design hung our Earth collage above the nightstand in one of her projects. This earthy collage draws colors used in the bedspread to tie the room together. The placement of the artwork adds some height to the room without being too large and the meditative quality of the artwork adds a relaxing feeling.
